Gambling Programs
We can help you break the cycle of gambling for good.
The therapy we use is an effective gambling treatment available that are proven to work through years of research. We do not just provide supportive counselling. That is why our clients can recover and regain control of their lives. The treatment we use is effective for all types of gambling-related issues.

One of the main reasons people cannot break the gambling cycle is because their urges to gamble become too strong to resist. People who have completed the program describe recovering from their gambling. The main reason people recover is that we help them slowly eliminate their desire to gamble.

When clients complete the course of exposure therapy, their brain no longer reacts to gambling triggers. It is like your brain has been reset to before you had a gambling problem. Some people liken it to the fire inside them is put out for good. People can then have a meaningful life without the ongoing fear of gambling, which sets them up for long-term recovery.

This therapy program is not based on drugs and considers the client's general issues such as loneliness, trauma, stress, grief, and depression that often accompany the gambling.

Assessment
When our specialist clinicians meet with people, they take time to listen to the client to understand what is going on and design a treatment program that will be best suited for them.

This program is co-facilitated by Gambling Harm Recovery Specialists, who not only provide the treatment but also contribute to research and positive treatment, outcomes in the area. Mental Health struggles and Gambling Harm often co-exist and all therapists are qualified and experiences in Mental Health and Gambling Harm Recovery.
During the assessment process we will get to know you, discuss options towards achieving the changes you would like to achieve. We will work with you to plan strategies that will work for you and start where you need to start at your speed.

Therapy
All sessions are run via Telehealth/Zoom network and may involve a combination of individual, family and group therapy sessions. Team members span between Melbourne, Adelaide and Capricorn Coast. If you live in one if these areas some of your individual sessions may be able to be accessed face-to-face.

Family / Significant Other (SO) Session.
If needed, a family/SO session can be provided as part of your treatment plan. This session aims to provide education to the significant other about the gambling treatment and hope that recovery is possible. Therapy brings family members together to solve problems and improve communication by creating space for every member to share their feeling and concerns.

If there are members of your family that would like some continued support we are happy to facilitate referrals to other colleagues that we work with, allowing them the space and privacy to attain their support.

Group
We have received positive feedback regarding the benefits of Telehealth/Zoom as this provides access no matter where you live and group support from the comfort of your home. Previous group members have reported increased confidence to join the group process via the internet with one motivating factor was the reduced likelihood of entering a room and seeing someone you know with members being widespread.

The group consists of a small number of people who support each other in confidence throughout treatment with the guidance of the program facilitators. People find comfort from speaking with others who have also experienced gambling harms and not feel alone during their recovery. This support is often a massive relief to the person who joins, and any anxieties about joining the group are forgotten. In conjunction with the group program, there are also individual sessions for more intensive support.
